Avery sat outside the dance, a single red rose in his hand. He bit his lip nervously, not sure what to expect. He wasn't usually one for online dating, but Diana was special. He was sure of it.

A girl approached him, hiding her face. She had black hair in a beautiful up-do, and she wore an elegant floorlength, bright blue dress. Avery smiled as she walked towards him; this must be Diana.

"Di," he said eagerly.

"Avery," she replied. She was obviously nervous.

"Diana, why are you hiding your face? What's wrong?"

He pulled her hand gently away from her face, and gasped. Jagged, elongated scars adorned the left half of her face, from her eye down to her chin. She looked down to the ground in shame. "I didn't know how to tell you," she apologized. "Look, you don't have to kiss me, you don't even have to look at me. You can leave right now if you want -"

Avery didn't even hesitate as he kissed her firmly on the lips, cutting her off. "You're beautiful," he said simply.
